A Night of Live Music in Hudson That Helps Bring the Armory Back to Life
Some of the best nights out happen locally, and one of them is coming to Hudson on Friday, November 20. Blues singer and harmonica player James Montgomery is performing at the Hudson Elks to raise money for the Armory on the Assabet, the effort to turn Hudson's historic armory into an arts and cultural center for the whole region.
Montgomery has been a fixture of the New England music scene since he formed the James Montgomery Band in 1970, and over the years he has shared stages with legends like B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Aerosmith. Seeing a performer with that kind of history in a hometown setting is a rare treat, and knowing that every ticket helps preserve a local landmark makes it even better.

About the Armory on the Assabet
If you've driven through downtown Hudson, you've likely noticed the castle style brick armory where Park and Washington Streets meet along the Assabet River. The building was dedicated in 1910 and served the Massachusetts National Guard for decades, and it's one of the most recognizable pieces of local history in the area.
The Hudson Cultural Alliance, a volunteer run nonprofit, is working to give the building a new life as an arts and cultural center. Their plans include:
- Workshops, with classes in areas like music, photography, podcasting, jewelry making, and visual art
- Community space, a meeting place for veterans' and historical groups along with youth, senior, and cultural organizations
- Exhibitions and performances, with studio and storage space for regional artists and arts groups
- Public events, such as farmers' markets and library book sales
The project has a long road ahead, starting with essential safety renovations, and community fundraisers like this concert are a big part of how it moves forward.
